2016 Resolutions

My motto for 2016 is Healthy Body, Mind and Soul…. not only for me but also for my family.

The last year has been extremely taxing on all of our bodies. From colds to RSV to tummy bugs to ear infections, we’ve all had our fair share in 2015 and this year I will be engaging on a healthier lifestyle to strengthen my family’s immune systems. I plan to achieve this through opting for more nutritious foods, adequate (fun) exercise and making use of more natural and organic products. Growing our own fresh fruit and vegetables, taking more family walks in the park and encouraging the kids to drink more water are just a few ways of achieving this goal.

Both Kurt and I enjoy gardening and before the kids came into the picture, we spent a lot of time nurturing our plants. Every week without fail, we would visit Stodels and/or Builders Warehouse then come home and do some planting and tidying up in the garden. I had an awesome Herb garden which even reaped in like hundreds of tomatoes during one season! With very little time to ourselves, nowadays we just have a gardener come in every second week just to tidy up. The herb garden is non existent at this stage but this will change very soon!

Making time for me will also be a priority! Having two kids, both under the age of 3, is rather demanding and it’s sometimes difficult to get even ten minutes to myself. It honestly feels like I am going to lose my mind sometimes.  This year I will be making a point of scheduling some me time at least a few times a week. Even if it’s a 30 minute workout at the gym to clear my head or getting my nails done, the benefits of a little break really go a long way. Happy Mom = Happy Family! Shame and the same goes for my hubby. He works very hard, he cooks and he’s a really hands on Dad. He also needs to get in some time for himself more often, so I am going to encourage him to do just that.

I also have a few strategies in mind to nourish our souls. It’s really the little things that count…

Here are a few things which I would like to encourage in my home this year:

  • Sitting together and having dinner as a family
  • Trying out new arts and crafts
  • As I mentioned above – tending our garden
  • Reading – Sometimes you just need to let the dishes and laundry wait while you curl up with a good novel 🙂
  • Turning off the TV and cell phones now and again and just enjoying each other’s company
  • Laughter is also good for the soul, so I’m looking forward to many laughs with the kids this year

I will also be sharing our progress, ideas, recipes, DIY’s and some tips with my readers this year as we embark upon this journey.
