Online Shopping – Yay or Nay?

So the other day my Boss comes up to me and asks whether I’ve ever bought clothing or shoes from an Online store before. I of course replied saying yes and he was like “How can you buy something without being able to see it or try it on?”

It’s something I’ve become quite accustomed to of late and I don’t really see it as a deterrent. Maybe at first I did. Like what do you do if it doesn’t fit? Or if it breaks? Well, it’s pretty much the same as if you’d buy in store. In fact it’s easier, because someone will collect the item from you!

I also kind of enjoy the wait, the build up and excitement of having the items delivered. How will it look? How will it feel? Will it fit?

A few months back I bought a coat from Superbalist and the first time I wore it, the button came off. I went online, snapped a picture of the coat and loose button and the next day someone collected it from me. Within 2 days, I received a replacement. The process was actually better than physically having to go back to a store to change the item, where 9 out of 10 times they don’t even have your size anymore 🙁

I often also buy Baby Goods from Babygroup and sometimes the goods are even delivered the same day! How’s that for service? From nappies, wipes, toys and clothing – I’ve ordered it all and the packages are even personalized with a note! You don’t get that at the mall shops – imagine!

Many of the online stores also allow you to use your miles or loyalty points and that has really worked out for me in the past. Last month I literally paid R129 for a pair of boots which was on sale for R499 and after using my miles, that’s what it equated to.

One area that I haven’t yet ventured into, is shopping for groceries online. I know that Pick’nPay and Woolworths offer the service but it’s a concept I still have to wrap my mind around. Earlier this month, when I posted my thoughts on my exorbitant grocery shopping bills  a reader commented and gave me a really good idea. She said that she actually saves a lot of money by shopping online. This way she sticks to her shopping list and is not tempted by the store displays and food cravings. Its a great idea and could also save a lot of time.

So I may be trying that out during this month and will see if it can work for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE some physical retail therapy but there is no way I’m missing out on a good online deal.

Have any of you ever shopped for groceries online? Do you find everything you normally would in store? Please share your experiences with me, I’d love to hear.

xx

I absolutely do all my clothes shopping online – not tried grocery shopping purely because I am never sure if I will arrive home in time to get it delivered.

The timing has also held me back from online shopping for groceries, but lets see how it goes.

I have been doing a lot of online shopping lately, it saves me from standing in long queues and especially the month end madness. I don’t think I’ll do my grocery shopping online though…

I buy a lot of clothing/goods online. Never done grocery shopping though. But that does sound like a very good reason to check it out and maybe try it sometime soon.
