I’m so happy to be featuring another little cutie in this series. Zaia, who turned 1 on the 18th of last month is the daughter of Lee-Ann and Andre. Lee-Ann and I were at high school together and I can already see so many traits of Lee-Ann that is bubbling through in Zaia’s personality. Lee-Ann is one of those people whom you will never forget once you meet – she has an amazing personality and always has a smile on her face! Zaia is no different 🙂

I asked Lee-Ann to share her experience as  a First time Mom and she happily obliged.

1. What would you say has been the most challenging part of the past year for you? 

The most challenging part of the year has been the sleep deprivation… people warned me, saying that you will never get your sleep back… therefore I slept hard before I gave birth. But unfortunately that formula didn’t work… I haven’t had a full night since.

2. What has been the most rewarding part of this past year for you? 

The most rewarding part of this year has been the pure happiness on Zaia’s face when I wake her in the morning. Everyday we sing happy birthday. She then wakes up practically dancing. It’s irresistible!

3. How do you juggle working full time and being a Mommy?

 I am so spoilt, both sets of parents are retired and very happy to take care of Zaia. Therefore I am so lucky that my child is well taken care of during the day. I’m also very thankful that I am able to work flexible hours.

4. Have you done anything special to record Zaia’s milestones (sitting up, crawling, first tooth, walking etc) throughout this year? 

I kept a diary of her every little move… my mom kept a little diary with my born day and it’s my personal treasure. I therefore tried to do the same. Added to that, pinterest ideas with a photograph every month, I almost have all 12 months of pics…

5. Is there anything new that you’ve learnt about yourself since you’ve become a parent? 

I have learnt so much about myself, my biggest fear was how could I care for another human, but becoming a Mommy made me realise that God gives you this natural ability to care and nurture your little person. There isn’t a text book to tell you how to do this thing… I learnt through trial and error and grand parents

6. Zaia is now officially a toddler! Are you ready for what this new chapter has to bring – walking, running, talking and the good old tantrums 🙂 ? 

Ooooh this chapter is fun and good exercise for me… chasing Zaia is another job I tell you! I want her to have that freedom to explore. The tantrums are a bit of a surprise to me… where do babies learn how to have so much attitude?

7. How did you celebrate Zaia’s first birthday?

I went a bit first birthday overboard! It wasn’t a particular theme, but it was totally girly and so much fun for the adults… we decorated the house with pink balloons and gold sparkles, she wore her crown and tulle and paraded all day as we took pictures of her every move. A photographer was the most important attribute for the day to remind her of the great celebration she had.
