There comes a time when kids start wondering why people look different or talk differently.
This is the phase that Alyssa is in at the moment.
We live in a country where there are many different cultures and it’s actually a great opportunity to teach our children how different cultures live without having to travel very far.
I feel very strongly about exposing Alyssa and Aidan to diversity, and providing them with imaginative toys which actually allows them to see themselves in their imaginary play!
This is exactly why I am so in love with the Barbie Fashionista range.
The Barbie Fashionista range started back in 2015, which saw the launch of a brand new Barbie crew featuring 23 dolls with a range of skin tones, facial structures and hair colours. The popularity of the new line saw the official launch of the Fashionista label in 2016, with the introduction of three new body types – tall, curvy and petite – seven skin tones, 14 facial structures, 22 eye colours and 24 hairstyles.
Plus, of course, countless new on-trend fashions and accessories to suit each individual doll, from casually cool and boho bold, to elegant evening wear and pretty much everything in between!
The Fashionista range now features over 100 dolls of diverse appearance, and it continues to grow.
The 2018 range has even more variety, introducing another four body types, nine skin tones, 13 face-sculpts, nine eye colours, 11 hair colours and 13 hairstyles!
The choice, as children have come to expect from the Barbie brand, is limitless.
The new line is definitely more reflective of the world that our girls see around them – in terms of body type, skin tone and style!
Alyssa had the option of choosing her favourite Barbies and it was very flattering that she chose a Barbie that she thought looked like me (if I had a couple of blue streaks in my hair that is)!
Alyssa’s imaginary world is well represented and I’m looking forward to growing her Barbie collection, just as I did as a little girl.
Did you have a Barbie collection growing up? I’d love to hear.
