It feels like just yesterday that we were preparing for Christmas, doesn’t it?
Now the countdown to the Easter weekend has begun and the kids are looking forward to treats from the Easter Bunny!
Alyssa and Aidan are super excited for what’s to come this week, but it’s not all about the chocolates! We’ve already started getting into the spirit, but I’ve still got a few things up my sleeve to keep them occupied, entertained and informed during this special time.
Learning What Easter Is Really About
First and foremost, there’s a reason behind Easter! With Easter being so commercialised these days, it’s easy to get caught up in the festivities and forget what it’s truly about.
With young kids it’s not that easy getting the full message across, but you can start small by reading stories and having little talks about this holy week. Alyssa got to learn about the true meaning of Easter in her first sunday school class last month. It was really nice for her to learn all about it, before the Easter Bunny was all in our faces!!
Easter Crafts
There are so many fun and easy Easter crafts to do, which you can easily find on Pinterest. With most things on Pinterest, the crafts may resemble perfection and the pictures look amazing. I really don’t put any pressure on the kids to get it 100% perfect – it’s all about having fun and learning, isn’t it?
Fellow Blogger, Melanie from Wind In A Letterbox, has some really nice Jesus-focused Easter craft ideas on her blog – have a look here.
Cute Easter Gear
Cotton On’s April range has the cutest Easter Ideas including clothing, PJ’s, bunny masks and sleeping bags. It’s really hard to walk in that store and leave without buying anything!
Easter egg Hunts
In Cape Town, we will be spoilt for choice when it comes to Easter Egg hunts. The kids will absolutely love finding little treasures hidden by the Easter Bunny! I know of a few happening at my kids favourite spots in the Mother City:

Love the craft easter links
We love Easter. We explain the meaning of everything we eat from hot crossed buns to empty Easter eggs. Our kids love the age appropriate egg hunts with colour allocated eggs. Thanks so much for these links, they’re so great to know about.
