Fashion Friday: What Happened To Girl Power?

Don’t you just love Female Feminist Fashion trend?

Slogan T-shirts like this one with the slogans like “Girl Boss” , “Girl Power” and “The Future is Female” are really popular and truly makes a statement.

It’s not just about equal rights and making a statement – it’s so much more than that.

For me, it’s about female empowerment. Females empowering females. Fixing one another’s crown instead of telling her it’s crooked, right?

There was a time when my social media feed and even my daily encounters was filled with such empowerment and I absolutely thrived off of it.

But lately, I’ve been noticing just the opposite actually.

There have been many amazing “women empowering women” initiatives going around lately which have to be applauded – it’s just awesome. It’s great seeing women coming together and cheering each other on, isn’t it?

Then on the other hand, I’ve also been seeing some negativity online.

Nasty tweets, comments and outbursts hastily posted on social media for the world to see, and targeted at woman who may have just shared something that they are going through or just anything in general – I’m seeing a lot of this lately.  And I don’t like it.

Disagreeing and giving constructive feedback to another person is normal and generally well received, but it’s another thing to get personal and be just plain rude!

When I see this kind of Bullying online (yes, it’s Bullying in my books), I often wonder whether the person typing out the cruel words would have the guts to say it to the persons face when they see them?

Maybe I’m just being sensitive after a really crappy week, but this is really getting to me, especially when I see a Mom reacting this way towards another Mom.  Is this the example we want to set for our kids?

I know that the daily stress of life in general gets to us at times, but just as we would think twice about saying something out loud, we really do need to think twice before we type.

That few clicks of a button can literally make someone else’s day turn into a nightmare. We need to be sensitive about that and realise that that there’s an actual human being with feelings on the other side of that keyboard.

Sorry for the rant. I like to keep things positive in this space of mine, but I really just had to get that off my chest. Lets keep rooting for each other.

Kindness rules!

That’s what bugs me most! It’s bullying at the end of the day

right now I am irritated by how Feminism is a trend, a hashtag, a cute t-shirt but without action. We claim to be all about empowering women but we do it in the patriarchal way so we apply masculine behaviours and ideology to achieve that power instead of our innate feminine energy. we compete with each other instead of nurturing each other, We want to control each other rather than collaborate.
