Paarl is one of our favourite family-friendly areas to visit. We love it because we always seem to find venues and activities that are fun for the kids and for adults.
In addition to some of our favourite Paarl spots that I shared about a little while ago, we recently spent a day out exploring 3 gorgeous venues that have loads to offer.
Family Activities In Paarl
Babylonstoren boasts one of the best-preserved farmyards in the Cape. It has an absolutely magnificent garden which comprises of fruit, vegetables, berries, bees for pollinating, indigenous plants, fragrant lawns, a prickly pear maze, ducks and chickens, and so much more!
We enjoyed a guided tour of the garden, learning about the healing powers of the plants. The kids got to pick and taste fresh guavas as we walked about.
If you explore the garden, look out for the funny 4 legged tree, the insect hotel and taste the elephant food if you’re struggling with cholesterol. Little did we know, we have some Elephant Food in our own garden at home, so this got the kids really excited.
We enjoyed breakfast at the Greenhouse restaurant and were served fresh naartjies from the garden while our breakfast was being made. The kids absolutely loved this treat!
P.S – if you visit in the month of March which is Pumpkin season, we were told that kids will get to have some fun carving the pumpkins!
Our next stop was Fairview where the kids were really excited to hear about the story of the Goat tower. The kids found it quite funny to see the goats climbing the steps. We just missed meeting the “kids” who come out to the tower between 10 am and 12 during the month of September, but we did get to meet their parents!
After socialising with the goats, we visited the tasting room where Kurt and I enjoyed a wine and cheese pairing while the kids enjoyed a kiddies pairing which was a fruit juice, cheese and chocolate pairing.
Fairview is also home to the Goatshed restaurant, a bakery as well as a shop and deli with so many tasty treats.
The popular Spice Route is the place to explore, discover and taste! From wood-fired pizza’s to chocolate tastings to glass blowing – there really is so much to see and do.
This was our last stop of the day and we really wanted to end it off with an Ice-cream tasting which we did, but before that, the kids got to burn off their last bit of energy on the Spice Route Choc-o-trail which is basically a 100-meter track suitable for little ones!
The whole family can, in fact, get active with mountain trails on Spice Route, ranging from a basic 2.5km to more complex 35km tracks!
Perhaps next time when the kids are up for the 2.5km.
If you’re looking for family-friendly venues in Paarl with more than just a “kiddies play area”, then these are really great choices for a fun-filled family outing.
