Happy Love Month everyone! I hope you’re enjoying it with your loved ones so far. Every Valentine’s month I always find myself thinking about jetting off on a holiday, just Kurt and I – imagine that! It would take an awful amount of planning to even do that for a weekend. I often think back to our Honeymoon and holidays pre-kids days. It was absolute bliss to just book those cheap flights and not have to worry about much else for the trip! Gone are those days.
Nevertheless, I thought I’d share some of the best honeymoon destinations we considered and a bit about the countries we visited on our Honeymoon !
Best Honeymoon Destinations
While many would love a sun, sea and sand experience to relax and unwind after the big day, we opted for an Autumn European adventure and visited Switzerland and Italy.
Some would call it crazy to visit as Switzerland is one of the most expensive cities in the world. BUT is certainly one of the most beautiful countries to experience with numerous lakes, villages and so much natural beauty.
It is also one of the safest countries in the world, so you can truly relax and unwind.
When in Italy….. You have to visit the City of Water.
Studies say that the city is sinking and that by 2100, Venice may not exist anymore! So visiting really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Venice has lots of history, architecture and canals and it’s pretty romantic walking those routes.
Venice is known to be one of the most romantic cities in the world and there’s nothing more romantic than cuddles on a gondola ride!
If we had to opt for sea, sun and sand – then Mauritius would have to be a top pick. With crystal clear beaches and 24/7 relaxation, I could definitely go back for another honeymoon.
There are always amazing specials and holiday packages available for honeymoons in Mauritius and it really is tempting! In fact there are some amazing family packages too, so perhaps its a destination we could head to with the kids some time.
The Seychelles is is an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, off East Africa. It is home to numerous beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves, as well as rare animals such as giant Aldabra tortoises.
Imagine spending your honeymoon overlooking the magnificent beauty of its national parks and beaches – it sounds and looks like an absolute dream.
Local is very lekker and had we decided to do a local trip for our honeymoon, we would have been spoilt for choice. There really is an enormous amount of beautiful destinations to enjoy during the special time together.
For our tenth wedding anniversary, Kurt and I took our first trip alone together since we became parents. We visited Aquila Private Game Reserve for an awesome safari experience. It’s just a 2 hour drive outside of Cape Town and so very worth it to visit!
There’s just so much to do in South Africa!
Good luck with your Honeymoon planning.
