After a late night spent out at the Justin Bieber concert last month, Kurt and I looked forward to relax and unwind in Wellington the next day. And that is exactly what we did.
Along with a few other members of the media, we got to kick back and chill at 4 superb venues which are ready to welcome guests this Winter.
Summer bodies are made in Winter, right?
Yes, this is what I keep telling myself but with the colder weather setting in, I just cannot help myself. I’m sure there are a few of us who can feel our waists expanding as we indulge in that melt-in-your-mouth slice of malva pudding that we know we shouldn’t be eating! “One piece won’t hurt” Won’t it?
I’m trying very hard to stay motivated and will hold myself accountable if come Summer I hide behind my husband’s perfectly chiselled body. Yes, this makes it 100 times worse, when your hubby is so good and sticking to his eating and training plan, and I’m out here binge eating on the kid’s Easter eggs and soon to be popping out of my skinny jeans!

“Let us all protect children to move South Africa forward”.
28 May – 4 June is Child Protection Week and it couldn’t have come at a better time. I think we are all aware of the recent fatal crimes against children in the Western Cape, and as a parent – it’s extremely hard to think of what these children’s families must be going through. I’m angry, hurt and cannot fathom how anybody could want to inflict harm on a child.
The sad part about these crimes is that in many of these cases, the perpetrator is somebody the child knows and that the family trusts. How does one ever get over the loss of a child, especially under these circumstances?
Child protection week is here to raise awareness for the rights of our kids. It aims to mobilise all sectors of society to care for and protect children. This week, SASSA will highlight a number of children’s issues and identify what still needs to be done – clearly, there’s a lot. It’s however not only the government’s responsibility, but all South Africans play a role in protecting children and creating a safe and secure environment for them.
South Africa’s largest culinary event opens in Cape Town on Friday 2 June until Sunday 4 June at the CTICC. After attending the media preview earlier this month, I can guarantee you that attendees will be in for a real treat!
The latest foodie trends will be dished up and South African foodies will have the chance to interact with the line-up of exciting food personalities, including Reza Mahammad, Jenny Morris, Lentswe Bhengu, Sarah Graham, Neill Anthony, Lisa Raleigh, Sherwyn Weaich and Vanessa Marx. Lloyd Jusa (Saxon Hotel), Gregory Mutambe (12 Apostles Hotel) and Tinashe Nyamudoka (The Test Kitchen) will also be there to share some of their fine wine knowledge with show attendees.
What I’m most excited about is that budding child chefs will get their chance to discover the joys of cooking at the annual gastronomic gathering, thanks to The Kids Cooking Club, the Kids Deco Lab and a line-up of free live theatre events.
