Yes, I know… the work year has barely started, but after just a week back to reality – my body was completely in shock and I was knocked with a terrible sinus infection. I’m about to embark on a bit of a career change imminently, so I’ve been a bit stressed and anxious about what’s to come in the future. I’ll share some more of that soon.
This is why an invitation to stay over at Val Du Charron Guest House & Wine Estate In Wellington was welcomed. We visited the Piza E Vino restaurant on the estate back in December last year and really fell in love with the beautiful views, so we couldn’t wait to go back and explore more of what it has to offer. The kids were also very excited to know they were going back to the restaurant with the coolest play areas.
Upon arrival, we immediately began exploring the vineyards and the kids were very happy to meet the huge elephant and horse features on the estate.
We were comfortably hosted in the Family room at the Guest House, which has a double bed and two single beds. The room has a balcony with a beautiful garden and view, a kitchen and spacious bathroom.
Whilst exploring, we overlooked the Coach House accommodation on the estate, which has the most amazing setting. It is the kind of room Kurt and I would go for should we have a night away from the kids if you know what I mean….
Our room was great though but as you can see below, the king and queen took over …
Of course, we had to visit Piza Vino again – there’s no guessing why… It may just have something to do with it having the most amazing water play area EVER!
We also got to lounge around and swim in the pool at the guesthouse which was so refreshing. The view at the pool is just breathtaking. It was lovely relaxing out there.
We dined at the Local Grill for Dinner and Kurt was very intrigued with the way their steaks are prepared, and got the low down from the restaurant staff. Resting for up to 59 days, the steaks literally melt in your mouth.
Due to time constraints, we didn’t get to experience the Wine Tasting the estate offers and I also didn’t get to check out was the SPA – which was a big pity, but the actual setting and view of it is relaxing in itself. We will have to save this for that weekend without the kids.
We also got to explore Wellington a bit more and I even participated in the Parkrun in the area at the Imbuko Estate not too far from Val Du Charron.
We absolutely enjoyed our stay and felt most welcome by the friendly staff at Val Du Charron. We really spent quality family time out there and when we arrived back in Cape Town, I felt so rested and ready to take on the new week. It was just what the Doctor ordered…

Love that photo of the elephant and horse sculpture. AMAZING!!!
Thanks Kim 😉
Ooh, that elephant is a new addition – we were there towards the end of last year. The wine tasting is pretty cool – got a very nice selection of wines. My only complaint is that the wine tasting room is tiny – only really suitable for two people and the storyteller at a time!
Yes the elephant is new. It wasn’t there when we there in December. The kids loved it!
I suppose the tiny tasting room makes it more romantic 🙂
Looks cool – were in Wellington this weekend and had no idea about this place. The toddler is going to dig it, so glad I read this 🙂
Enjoy x
Awesome pics, we also really love staying at VdC! We’ve done our wine tastings in the Local Grill before:

[…] Du Charron Estate. We felt quite at home there, as we’ve been there a few times before and even spent a weekend there not too long ago. The kids love this place so much – it honestly has the most unique and fun play area any kid […]
