After a late night spent out at the Justin Bieber concert last month, Kurt and I looked forward to relax and unwind in Wellington the next day. And that is exactly what we did.
Along with a few other members of the media, we got to kick back and chill at 4 superb venues which are ready to welcome guests this Winter.
Our first stop was at Linton Park Wines. Here, we got a tour of the farm by the Winemaker himself, JG Auret, who shared his passion for winemaking as well as the steps taken by the farm in terms of sustainability. One being the initiative whereby they’ve partnered with the International drive “Save The Rhino”, by bottling a (delicious) wine in honour of the project and donating funds from the proceeds.
Next, we visited Au d’Hex Estate – which is probably one of the most beautiful places on earth. I kid you not. The manicured gardens alone are enough to take your breath away. The Estate also has the most beautiful restaurant and accommodation, which caters for weddings. I would get married to Kurt all over again if I could – just to host it here!
The restaurant has inside and outside seating areas. Sitting out in the garden area is obviously best, however, on the colder days the inside seating is seriously cosy and inviting, with views of the outdoor garden.
The restaurant menu has a wide selection and everyone at our table was quite impressed with their meal and the serving sizes are huge.
After lunch, we headed to Oude Wellington for some brandy and desert. Wow, walking into the restaurant felt like I was visiting one of my grandparents – it just has that homely, warm feeling. The desert was just as homely and I honestly tasted the best cheesecake EVER!
Look at this pancake cake! WOW!
If you want to visit, I suggest you call first and make a booking! It’s quite a popular spot and the owners have a select menu each day. Which means they only cater for their guests for the day!
We ended off our day with some cheese and wine at Val Du Charron Estate. We felt quite at home there, as we’ve been there a few times before and even spent a weekend there not too long ago. The kids love this place so much – it honestly has the most unique and fun play area any kid could ask for.
This visit, we finally got to check out the beauty spa as well as a tour of the wine cellar. More reasons for us to go back again!
That pancake cake looks amazing! Thank you for sharing.
