Self-care is so important to me. Without my physical and mental health, I’ll have nothing!
But sometimes it’s so hard to get the time to make time for myself… do you agree?
I recently ran a poll on Instagram and it wasn’t surprising to me that 80% of woman who answered, hardly ever gets to have “ME TIME”
I can relate at times, because besides 24 hours a day of Mommying, I have many busy work weeks, then there’s my blog I have to maintain, admin, trying to keep fit and an attempt at a social life!
But, how do I make room for everything?
I could easily cut back on the socializing and maybe even skip a meal to make some more time – it’s so easy to put self-care on the back burner. And sadly many times it often takes a wake-up call to notice what toll a busy lifestyle takes on my life.
As self-indulgent as it may sound, self-care is actually the most crucial thing for our physical and mental well-being.
I’ve made a commitment to myself that as “busy” as I may be, I shouldn’t neglect self-care. And this is how I get my “Me time” in”.
Knowing my worth
Self-care is important to maintain a healthy relationship with me myself and I, as it produces positive feelings and boosts my confidence and self-esteem. My needs are important too!
Start living, not just existing
As Mom, there is so much responsibility placed on you, but it’s important to remember that taking care of yourself is also your responsibility! Life is not just about sitting in traffic taking the kids to school, work and paying the bills. When I feel like I’m in a rut, I find that taking up a new hobby or doing some form of learning can make life more meaningful. It literally gives me one more reason to get up in the morning.
Better physical health
Self-care is not just about your mental health. It’s also about caring for your physical self. Eating healthy, getting enough sleep, taking care of my skin, not sleeping with makeup on, exercising regularly, etc.
Little things like enjoying a morning cup of coffee alone outside, enjoying a bubble bath, or reading a book can really contribute to my daily happiness. I usually make some time for myself on a Sunday afternoon before planning for the new week. It used to be a long lush bath bomb bath, but thanks to the Cape Town drought that is sadly no longer an option.
So now, I play around with makeup, or plan my outfits for the week and maybe end off with a refreshing face mask.
The lovely people over at Revlon, Almay and Mitchum recently sent me a HUGE box of makeup and skin care products which I am currently enjoying. I’ll be trying new makeup looks, new skin care routines and just enjoy the Me Time!
I’ll be sharing reviews of some of my favourite products on the blog soon too.
