Bye-Bye Hair Brushing Battles

hair brushing battles

As a child, I absolutely hated it when my Mother brushed my hair. I was completely traumatized by the red comb that she used to untangle my knots. It was complete agony.

Because of this, I naturally worried about managing Alyssa’s hair as it grew longer and longer. Her hair is just as fine as mine, but it’s wavier – which means it tends to knot quite easily.

We had lots of tears. Alyssa used to run at the sight of a brush in my hand, she would cry before I even touched her hair!

But things have changed:

First and foremost – the Tangle Teezer has changed our lives – especially in the mornings. The brush literally detangles with minimum fuss, breakage and damage. It leaves hair, soft, smooth and shiny.

Recently we received a Disney Princess Tangle Teezer, The Little Mermaid – and Alyssa has now even ventured into brushing her own hair – because she’s a mermaid, of course!

Can you blame her? She is naturally attracted to the colours of the brush. The shade combo of the original colour blocks a sweetened coral with a calming aqua for the teeth, making for a fantastical match.

Along with the Tangle Teezer, there are a few other simple things that helped us stop the Hair Brushing Battles:

  • Not washing hair every day. Prior to the water restrictions, I used to wash the kids hair every single day, but then we cut that down to 2 or 3 times a week. That has actually helped with the tangles. Washing everyday actually strips down the hairs natural oils, which makes it knot even quicker.
  • A good conditioner or leave-in conditioner really helps keep the hair silky and smooth.
  • A plain old distraction (like a book or the TV ) while I’m brushing, for those mornings where Alyssa is just not in the mood for anything, does go a long way!

So with the Warm Weather is upon us…. so does this mean Beach Hair, Don’t Care?

Have you tried the Tangle Teezer?

My 8 year old has very curly hair and most times it sounds like there is a murder being committed in our house when it comes to hair brushing. Maybe this brush is worth the investment.
