Earlier this year we came to the realisation that Alyssa has “outgrown” her bookshelf collection.
All the books we’ve collected over the last 5 years (and some from when I was a child) we’ve read over and over and Alyssa was not as excited about each and every book anymore while Aidan can still enjoy these storylines for some time.
This is exactly why I was so excited that we were offered the opportunity to review a proudly South African top-selling collection of books written by Candice Noakes-Dobson.
The collection titled A Little Horse Called Pancakes is a series of stories Candice has written about her young daughter, AnnaB and her special bond with her miniature horse, Pancakes.
Throughout the series, the pair get up to many adventures, and with the help of all the other animals that live on Sweet Valley Farm in Cape Town, they challenge what others perceive to be the norm!
Of course, Alyssa loved this angle!
We often chat about the stories after reading and I love how Alyssa’s imagination goes wild and she comes up with her own little tales about what happens next.
The books are aimed at children aged 4-8 years old and can be used as an early reader. The stories are a little bit longer than what Alyssa was used to, so it’s really made her feel like “a big girl” and it’s great to see her concentration and follow-through each and every story.
We are also in love with the illustrations of this series, by Wendy Paterson, it’s absolutely beautiful!
If you want to keep up with Pancakes on social media – you can follow on Facebook @pancakesbookcollection and Instagram.
You can also purchase the books on takealot.com – all proceeds of these books go to the South African Riding for the Disabled (SARDA) organisation – how amazing is that!
