It’s World Book Day today! Yay!
I’m a firm believer of reading to children as their brains are literally like sponges that take in every single word!
As my kids are getting older I am enjoying seeing Alyssa reading on her own and also reading to Aidan. Aidan is also starting to identify words in books which makes me so happy.
With it being World Book Day today, I thought I’d share some books these two are enjoying at the moment.
Some Books My Kids Are Enjoying Right Now
How Many Ways Can You Say Goodbye?

This has to be the kids absolute favourite at the moment. The book which is written by Refiloe Moahloli, is also accompanied by a colouring-in book which is just the sweetest.
After Sara and her friends had an exciting journey in a hot air balloon to see the country and find out how to say Hello in “How Mant Ways Can You Say Hello?” they are now returning across South Africa to see more sights and to drop off the friends – one by one. As they do this, they also need to find out how to say goodbye to each other in all of the country’s 11 official languages.
But just as Sara starts to feel sad, she discovers that goodbye can be the start of something new and wonderful.
I had to help the kids to pronounce goodbye in some of the 11 official languages – but thankfully there is a digital link to the text which is narrated by the author herself to guide us with authentic pronunciation.
The Great Adventure

Aidan particularly loved this one! It’s written by Samantha van Riet.
Otter, Mongoose and Squirrel never go anywhere (much like Aidan didn’t during lockdown). One sunrise they wake to the excited chatter of birds returning from their annual journey to the north. This inspires the three friends to go on a trip on their own. Because they can’t fly, they build a boat and set off across the water but things don’t work out quite as they planned.
Although their great adventure turns out to be short-lived, they all agree that in the end it was worth it!
It Will Be OK

Written by Lisa Katzenberger, this sweet little book has such a good message.
Giraffe and Zebra meet every day under their favourite tree to walk to the watering hole. But today, Giraffe isn’t there! Where could he be? Zebra spots him hiding in the tree; Giraffe has seen a spider and is scared silly. Zebra patiently talks to Giraffe and does the very best thing; he supports Giraffe for as long as he needs it.
This book really showcases the power of friendship, kindness and empathy that can help little ones face their fears no matter how silly they may seem.
Z is for Zack series

Aidan was over the moon when these books arrived. His best friends name is Zac and when he paged through the book he said one of the other characters looks just like him!
There a 3 books in the series written by Jaco Jacobs:
The Perfect Pizza
Zackie and Vincent can’t wait to taste the fantastic pizza at the market. But will Zackie be able to save their pizza before Anton sinks his teeth in to it?
The Fun fair
Zackie and Vincent are at the funfair when Anton, the school bully, starts making fun of them. Zackie decides to teach him a lesson.
The Terrible Trip
Zackie and Vincent go camping, but it seems like Anton, the school bully, is planning to ruin their weekend.
Happy Reading!
