It’s the day before my birthday.
Over the last couple years, this day would usually leave me feeling down for some reason. The older I get, the less “fun” my birthday seems to be. And I’m not only talking about the partying.
The realisation that I’m another year older, just shakes me. Over the weekend, I could feel that feeling setting in. 35 is a huge number – it marks the “mid-thirties” – so I was literally starting to bid my youth farewell.
There’s always been a negative connotation when it comes to age. The older you get the more uncool or vulnerable you become. And that’s exactly how I felt.
On Sunday morning, I’m sure many of you would have seen all the hype about Beyonce’ at Coachella doing it’s rounds on social media. But have you watched her performance?
All I can say is WOW!!!
Not only did she SLAY that performance, but she made history and broke records.
Beyoncé’s records today:
• First black woman to headline #Coachella
• Destiny’s Child: first girlgroup to perform at #BeyChella
• Bey set the highest live streaming record ever
• Most tweeted about & praised Coachella performance
• Longest Coachella dancing sequence onstage pic.twitter.com/N1Daktm4sD

Beyonce is 36 years old, a Mother of 3 and she is in her prime! Unstoppable.
While watching the performance, I was packing my sock and underwear drawer, dancing like a crazy person, with my beautiful daughter. She was smiling and laughing at my crazy dance moves and I was laughing at hers.
At that moment, neither of our ages mattered.
And I thought to myself, here I am – healthy, happy, alive, slaying it like Beyonce’ – to my own beat that is!
And that is exactly why my age means feathers, actually! It is literally but a number.
So while I may not literally be dancing my way into the 18th of April as I did in my twenties, I don’t need to do that in order to have FUN!
My definition of fun is just different.
And anything is possible, age can’t and won’t stop me.
Have you been dreading your next birthday?
Please don’t fear or dread it. Celebrate it.
