For Alyssa’s 5th Birthday, my Dad made her a Dollhouse.
After showing my Dad a few pictures from Pinterest, he literally made it in one day and surprised Alyssa with it on the evening before her birthday. She had no idea that he was making it, so you can imagine her amazement when she saw it.
The wooden dollhouse is literally lifesize and Alyssa was even more excited by the prospect of decorating the house with some paint and wallpaper.
As you can see, it was just a wooden frame, so we had carte blanche when it came to the decor. If I had my way, I would have kept it raw and just added some decor, but of course any 5-year-old would demand some colour! So of course, we had to compromise.
We kept the frame raw, but each room got some colour or wallpaper. We also decided to add some wheels, so that it can move around the house. Alyssa was very helpful throughout – she had a vested interest!
Aidan was just as excited as Alyssa when he saw the house and after some bargaining with the owner, she decided to give him a room in the house – a garage for his cars and trains. We used metallic contact plastic for the flooring which turned out pretty cool.
The top section of the house, which we call the Deck, is pimped out with some lighting. Basically, it’s just for chilling while a Sylvanian plays some catchy tunes on the piano.
The main bedroom ( which still needs some decor) is pink and this is where Alyssa spends most of her time in, probably because it’s pink.
Then there’s the living room, where Barbie and her pals hang out.
Kurt has been helping Alyssa make pieces of furniture, like the couch that Barbie and pals are sitting on.
Don’t you just love how my MCC caps have been reused to make trendy stools? 🙂
And how my Mothers old doilies have now become rugs?
Then there’s the Blue room. The room that Moms can just come to chill out and not be overstimulated. This happens to be my favourite room. I think I need to move the stools in here!
Every home also needs a bathroom and laundry, and we went fancy with some marble wallpaper.
This is how it looks all together.
The kid’s imaginations are running wild with the house and I love listening to their make-believe conversations. It’s just the best.
They are incorporating all the toys they already have with in the house and they are just having plain old Fun!
Thank you, Pa for the best birthday present ever!
