Visiting Malaga, Spain

Malaga Spain

It’s surreal to believe that this time last year I was planning a trip to Europe.

And just a few months later, I was on my way to visit good friends in the beautiful city of Malaga in Spain. Thinking about it now, I am so extremely grateful that I had this experience pre- COVID-19 days!  How simple wasn’t life just a few months ago? I’m not taking things for granted very easily anymore.

I thought I would do a post about my favourite experiences visiting the beautiful city of Malaga, Spain and what it has to offer. So if you’re planning to visit Spain after the virus is fully under control, make sure Malaga is on your to-see list.

Visiting Malaga, Spain

Exploring towns within Malaga

Malaga province is made up of a number of small towns and its really easy to get around and explore. I stayed in Torremolinos with my friends, but explored a number of towns each offering something unique.

Torremolinos has the most amazing beaches which I enjoyed running along early mornings.

Ronda is another small town that we visited which  is a mountaintop city in Malaga province that’s set dramatically above a deep gorge. This gorge (El Tajo) separates the city’s circa-15th-century new town from its old town.

Another memorable city was the mountain village of Mijas. Nestled into the mountain landscape, the whitewashed streets of the historic old quarter, have a distinctly Moorish style. There are many buildings and monuments of historical interest, including the local churches and hermitages.

Food

What better way of exploring a country than the food? Not just the food, but the restaurants, the cuisine, the decor. I loved every bite of it! Breads and meats, good coffee! fish and of course Paella are some of the good food memories of Spain.

I also loved the hospitality of restaurants. Free tapas with your drink, very generous portions and mostly really good service.

Shopping

Of course I had to do a bit of shopping on my trip and Spain didn’t disappoint. I especially loved shopping in the city centre of Malaga. The vibe was just so good and it’s absolutely beautiful!

Each little town also has it’s fair share of shops and I absolutely loved browsing what each had to offer.

The streets of Spain come alive in the Summer evenings. The fiesta is part of spanish life whereby businesses close for a few hours midday and then open up again in the evenings. It took me a while to get used to!

I will definitely be back to visit this beautiful city. Kurt and the kids would love to explore it too so hopefully this happens soon.

Have you visited Malaga or anywhere in Spain before? What’s your favourite memory?
