I love living in the Western Cape for so many reasons, but one of the best parts of living here is that if you want to “escape” the city and suburbs, you don’t have to travel very far to relax and wind in a lot less chaotic surroundings. However, finding family friendly accommodation in the Western Cape is now the order of the day for us, so we’re always on the lookout for places that will have enough to keep the kids entertained but at the same time give Kurt and I a relaxing break.
If you’re a parent, I’m sure you will share this sentiment! So, what I thought I’d do is put together a list of family friendly accommodation in the Western Cape that we’ve visited and loved. I will also keep adding to this list if we do come across any other gems!
So, if you’re in the mood for a little vacay with the family, here are a few towns and establishments that we love:
Family Friendly Accommodation In The Western Cape
Capetonians love going to the West coast especially in Summer. Langebaan and Paternoster are probably the most popular destinations however just a few km’s away, Blue Bay Lodge in Saldanha Bay is where we spent a week celebrating Aidan’s first birthday.
This family-friendly establishment is situated on the beach, it has a pool and a kiddies play area and a beautiful restaurant on the premises.
Blue Bay Lodge is the perfect family getaway if you’re in the mood for some relaxation.
We’ve visited Montagu a few times since being a family of 4 and Glen Eden Farm is probably the most memorable visit. It’s probably because we got to spend time with Cody the Alpaca. Isn’t he cute?
The farm is also home to more hand-reared animals who really made us feel at home.
The farm has a few self-catering cottages as well as some really cute glamping options! If you’re looking for that farm life experience, this is your best bet!
Val Du Charron has a very comfy family room, play areas and more. Piza E Vino restaurant makes the most delicious pizzas and they have the coolest water sprinkler kiddies play area!
We visited Stanford earlier this year and we absolutely loved taking the kids there for the first time. We stayed at Blue Gum Country Estate which we loved. Upon arrival we were greeted by a beautiful herd of cows which made for an absolutely gorgeous backdrop for our entire stay. You can read all about our stay over here.
We also stayed at another farm during our stay in Stanford – Stanford Hills Estate. Kurt and I visited the farm a few years before the kids were born, so it was awesome to come back and show the kids around! If you have four legged furry friends as family members, Stanford Hills will welcome them too!
So this is our list of favourites thus far. As and when we visit more little towns or establishments, I’ll be sure to add our favourites to this post!
